Latvian singer sews 40 dresses in 40 days

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Singer Līga Reņģe from Burtnieki, Latvia, has taken up and followed through a challenge - sewing 40 dresses in 40 days, Latvian Radio reported August 1.

The idea had come during the crisis of COVID-19, when her vocal rehearsals were suspended but she did not want to idle away. The dresses are very different from one another and no model is repeated.

"I can't sit still for long - all the ideas circle in my head, what to do now, what to think of. First, we had the idea of singing a song daily and posting it on social media. (..) But that didn't go well, and I thought I'd just take to sewing," Līga said.

Her spouse Ivars also took up a related challenge – to document the 40 dresses in photo sessions, each one telling a unique story just like the dresses themselves. Those can all be seen on Facebook.

"The beginning was very difficult, as Līga was in her studio all day. (..) But in the end, I came to like it," said Ivars.

Līga and Ivars invite visitors to look at the 40-day dresses in Līga's studio, a small cottage next to their house "Cidonijas" in Burtnieki. They are also planning to organize fashion shows.
