The protesters demanded the end of Russia's criminal war in Ukraine, a full embargo on Russian oil and natural gas in Europe, and the supply of modern and powerful weapons to Ukraine.
Protest organizer Mārtiņš Levuškāns stated: “Russian citizens and local Russians are against the war of which Putin is guilty.”
Most of the participants said they were Russian-speaking people so they want their voice to be heard in Russia.
The people addressed by LTV said:
“The people have come to condemn the hostilities in Ukraine.”
“Came to show my solidarity, this war is shattering us very forcefully, such a disgrace and pain.”
“Came to protest against the war that Putin started. I want to support the Ukrainians who are fighting for their homeland. Ukrainians need to be provided [with assistance].”
“The husband and I drove away from Russia to my daughter here. We don't know what awaits us, but I know clearly that we are standing for the victory of Ukraine. The greatest thanks to Latvia, who has supported Ukraine and refugees from the first day.”
Around 60 protesters took part in the meeting in Rīga.
