Saeima moves to protect trees in central Rīga

Take note – story published 5 years ago

On May 24, the Saeima, in the first out of three readings, supported a bill saying that people who own land in central Rīga will have to replace any trees that have been felled or have died.

The rules are planned to prevent a decrease in tree numbers.

It is thought that the bill will be supplemented with provisions for protecting other cultural heritage, such as historical buildings.

Latvia has many wonderful and special trees, as reported by LSM.
