Visitor numbers up 9.5% in 2015

According to Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) data released Monday, in 2015 6.8m foreign travelers visited Latvia, up 9.5% from 2014. 

The money foreigners spent in Latvia has also increased.

Last year foreign travelers spent €742.2m in Latvia (excluding transport costs), 11% up from 2014.

The largest share of foreign travelers came from the neighboring countries - Lithuania (38.6%), Estonia (19.4%), Russia (8.3%) and Sweden (4.9%). 

A total 30.3% visited Latvia for recreation, 16.2 % visited friends or relatives, and 11.7% went on a business trip.

About 2 million spent more than one day in Latvia, staying for an average of four days.
