Roads across Latvia are slippery again Thursday morning

After a couple of days of thaw, snow and ice returned to large part of Latvia Thursday morning, making driving on many roads difficult, according to Latvian State Roads (Latvijas valsts ceļi, LVC).

Snowy sections of highway are being plowed and sprinkled with anti-slip materials by 97 units of winter service equipment.

Difficult driving conditions on the country's main highways are:

  • Tallinn highway (A1) from Riga to Tuja intersection;
  • Vidzeme highway (A2 from Riga to Vireši;
  • Valmiera highway (A3) in the entire section;
  • Riga Ring Road (Baltezers-Saulkalne) (A4) in the entire section;
  • Riga Ring Road (Salaspils-Babīte) (A5) in the entire section;
  • Daugavpils highway (A6) from Riga to Pļavinia;
  • Bauska highway (A7) from Riga to Dzimtmis;
  • Jelgava highway (A8) in the entire section;
  • Liepāja highway (A9) from Riga to Annenieki and from Blīdene to Liepāja;
  • Ventspils highway (A10) from Riga to Kūdra;
  • Tīnūži–Koknese (P80) in the entire section.

Driving on smaller regional roads is difficult throughout Latvia, with the exception of Daugavpils, Krāslavas, Ludza, Rēzekne, Balvi, Gulbene, Madona and Limbaži districts where conditions are slightly better.

In any case, drivers are advised to proceed with caution, choosing an appropriate speed and leaving plenty of distance to vehicles ahead.
