Cold week and warmer weekend expected in Latvia

Freezing weather is still expected in Latvia this week, but the weekend will be considerably warmer, according to forecasts by LSM's weatherman Toms Bricis.

There will be little snowfall, mainly just Tuesday afternoon and night. Sunny weather is mostly expected. On Tuesday, in Kurzeme, temperatures will reach 0 to +2 degrees Celsius but then the rest of the working week will be cold throughout Latvia.

The coldest weather is expected on Thursday and Friday - in the eastern part of the country temperatures will fall to -23 C to -28 C, in the mornings, in the rest of the country it will be mostly -15 C to -20 C, a bit warmer on the coast. During the day, the temperature will fall to -5 C to -10 C, down to -13 C in the east.

Over the weekend, the sky will be overcast more frequently, with snow expected on Saturday, which will turn into sleet and rain on Sunday. The temperature will be around zero on Sunday in the east of the country, but in Kurzeme it will reach +5 C to +7 C.
