While temperatures remained well below freezing across Latvia Monday morning, this time next week things should be different
Tuesday will stay cold, but on Wednesday night it will no longer be colder than -4 ..- 9 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures could touch 0 degrees.
In the second half of the week, the temperature will rise more and more often above zero and in places may exceed + 5 degrees C in the sun. But in the second half of the week, clouds will become more common and precipitation is expected - snow, sleet, then rain.
The average night temperature in western and central parts of Latvia will be above zero.
Historical data show that, on average, meteorological spring in the west of Latvia begins around 20 March, while in the east of the country a week later around 28-29. Therefore, if forecasts come true, this spring, will be slightly earlier than usual.
With the arrival of spring, it is expected that in the second half of March, Latvian rivers will begin to rise as ice and snow melt. This will bring a high risk of flooding along the banks of some rivers.
