Sunny but chilly weather week ahead for Latvia

Take note – story published 4 years ago

During this working week, the weather in Latvia will be mostly sunny, if a bit chilly at night, until wetter conditions return from the west just in time for next weekend, according to forecasters.

Until Friday, clear skies will bring cold nights, with temperatures in the east just below zero during the morning hours and sunny and moderately warm during the days, with maximum temperatures of +8 Celsius to + 13 C. Thursday and Friday in Kurzeme could even see +15 C to + 16 C.

The winds will be slow and variable, while morning fogs will be quite persistent, lasting even until the afternoon where conditions are right.

At the weekend, the wind will turn from the southwest and intensify - up to 15-18 meters per second on the coast. During the day the temperatures will not change significantly, but at night it will become considerably warmer, not falling below + 5 C, so frosts should be either completely absent or very light.

In related news, LSM's usually reliable weatherman Toms Bricis has issued a public apology after his forecast last week proved to bear very little relation to what actually transpired.

"You can never be completely sure about the weather," said Toms, repeating the standby mantra of seaweed-studiers through the ages. We'll let you off this time, Toms, but consider yourself yellow carded.
