Unusual weather forecast for Midsummer

Take note – story published 7 years ago

The weather during this year's Midsummer celebration, known to be rainy more often than not, should be dry and hot this year, reported LSM's weatherman Toms Bricis.

After a few days of occasional rain and thunder, culminating on Monday night, temperatures will rise and skies will become clearer on Thursday.

Tuesday will be cloudy and temperate with temperatures of +20..+25C, with similar weather conditions forecast for Wednesday with occasional rains and thunderstorms in the eastern parts of the country.

Thursday - Līgo day - should be hotter at +23..+28C and a chillier +11..+16C at night, which during the Midsummer celebration is usually spent by enjoying beer and cheese by bonfires.

While the Jāņi day will be hot at +25..+30C with the weather by the sea a little colder as is used to during summer.

The weekend will be equally hot with thunderstorms becoming more prevalent in places.

Latvians sometimes say "It is raining as if it were Midsummer" when it's pouring heavily. It seems that this year the proverb won't hold much water.
