Warm start to weather week

This week will get off to a very pleasant start on Monday, with temperatures in Zemgale and the vicinity of Riga warming to up to 15 degrees Celsius, according to forecasts from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC).

Other parts of the country will be a couple of degrees cooler and on the coast cooler still at +9 C to +11 C. 

The sun will often shine between scatterd clouds and no rain is expected.

Moderate westerly and southwesterly winds will blow at 12-15 meters per second.

On Tuesday the wind will turn from the northwest, and become gusty along the coast. The thermometer will drop to +7 C to + 12 C. 

On Wednesday, May, 4 the clouds will increase and it will rain slightly in the north. The wind will be a gentle to moderate west wind, and the maximum temperature during the day will again be + 7 C to +12 C – a far cry from the warmest May 4 since the restoration of the independence, when in 2002 temperatures reached 28.4 C in Liepāja.

Rain is expected in many places in the second half of the week . The wind will turn from the south and a warmer mass of air will enter the territory of Latvia. The nights will gradually get warmer and the thermometer bar will rise to +15 C in some places during the day.
