Six months ago, the government had to offer the Saeima options on the future fate of the town and municipality of Varakļāni, which was left out of the municipal reform, but it has still not been done. Clarity on the future of this municipality should come until the autumn of next year, considers the ministry responsible, LSM reported on July 11.
With the regional reform, which is to be published April 10, regions would be centered around towns, and only Rīga and Jūrmala could be left without a rural community, said Environmental Protection and Regional Development Minister Juris Pūce (Development/For!) in an interview with LSM's Latvian-language service.
