Most schools in Daugavpils, Latvia's second-largest city, introduced new meal arrangements for students following the Christmas holidays with a so-called "Swedish table" – essentially a buffet – replacing the previous system of set meals.

In a project supported by the Cohesion Fund, AS “Daugavpils Locomotive Repair Factory” (Daugavpils Lokomotīvju remonta rūpnīca, DLRR) has manufactured and delivered the first two of the four new tram cars to the commissioning party – municipal public transport company.
