€1.24m allocated to cultural events of national importance in Latvia this year

The State Culture Capital Foundation this year will provide €1.24 million in co-funding to support 53 projects of national importance, with the largest allocation granted to Riga International Film Festival (RIFF), according to information available on the foundation’s website.

The film festival has been allocated €130,000. The second largest support, €98,000, will be provided to the International Festival of Contemporary Theatre Homo Novus, and €58,000 have been earmarked for the New Theatre Institute of Latvia, which is organizing Latvia’s participation in the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2019.

The foundation’s representative Jana Vērdiņa told LETA that a total of 95 funding applications were submitted to the State Culture Capital Foundation this year. The total amount of these funding requests was €3.51 million.

Latvijas Valsts Mezi state forest manager is co-sponsoring the State Culture Capital Foundation’s program with €138,000 and Latvenergo state-owned power utility with €75,000.
