Latvia's entry for this year's Academy Awards – the feature film “January” (Janvāris) by director Viesturs Kairišs – will soon be screened in New York and Malibu, giving American audiences a chance to see the acclaimed drama.

The film crowned its world premiere with the Best International Feature Award at the Tribeca Film Festival (USA) and also picked up awards at the Rome International Film Festival (IT) and Warsaw Film Festival (PL).

On December 9, Viesturs Kairišs’s film will be screened in New York (Scandinavia House), and again on December 12 in Malibu at the Regency Agoura Hills Stadium.

Produced by Mistrus Media, “January” is the director’s partly autobiographical story of a young man experiencing the political turmoil of the fight to restore Latvia’s independence in 1991.

The screening in New York will take place in “Victor Borge Hall” at 7 p.m. (More information: https://www.scandinaviahouse.org/events/january-film-oscars-2022/). The screening in Malibu will be on December 12, at 7.30 p.m. (More information: https://mfsreservations.org/cgi-bin/mfshome.cgi)

“January” is produced by Latvia’s Mistrus Media, Lithuania’s Artbox and Poland’s Staron Film.
