Rīga World Film Festival coming soon

The Riga World Film Festival takes place from April 25 to 28 at the intimate "Kino Bize" cinema.

This year the festival's special guest will be American cinéma vérité documentary film director and Harvard University professor Ross McElwee, who previously visited Latvia briefly in 1990 before the collapse of the Soviet Union.

On Sunday, April 28, a masterclass "Documentary cinema after 30 years" will be held, in which the director Kristine Briede will talk to Ross McKelvey about his filmography and the interaction of his works with events in life. McKelvey took place at the Robert Flaherty seminar organized in 1990, which took place in Jurmala, bringing Soviet and US filmmakers together in one room. As part of the Riga World Film Festival, there will also be a unique opportunity to look back at this important event to focus on documentary cinema in depth history and a certain important role of Latvia in the international documentary environment.

The main program of the festival, called "Life", will include films that open a window into the domestic life of a person or group to focus attention on what is important in everyday life.

The festival is supported by the State Cultural Capital Fund and the National Cinema Center. More information about the program is available at www.kinobize.lv/rpff.
