The “Sudmaliņas” festival will run until July 14, treating audiences to free concerts in Rīga, Kuldīga, Sigulda, and Liepāja. The festival program can be found on the festival homepage.
The IX International Folk Dance Festival “Sudmaliņas” is organized by the Latvian National Cultural Center in cooperation with the Municipality of Kuldīga, Liepāja, Rīga, and Sigulda.
“Sudmaliņas” “is the most extensive festival in stage dance in Latvia”. It “aims at bringing together dancers from Latvia and different countries of the world, who would creatively explore, get to know and inherit folk dance traditions”. The festival was begun in 1992 by the Honorary Chief Group Leader of the Dance Celebration and choreographer Ingrīda Edīte Saulīte. During the years, “the festival has gained traditional stability and received high evaluation from our foreign guests, Latvian dancers, the audience and the critics”.
