The Riga Shorts curating staff has made quite some effort in selecting this year's movies, picking from several thousand they've watched to pick those short films that'll compete in the International, Baltic Student and Baltic Music Video contests.
In total, Short Riga features 44 works shown in 9 screenings that'll take over the cozy Kino Bize theater on Elizabetes st. 37-2. The films will be subtitled in English.
To make navigating the movies easier, the organizers have split the movies into colorful & thematic blocks - the White programme focuses on insanity, the subject of the Blue programme is sadness and hope, the Red programme takes up passion, while Black and Green take up fear and youth respectively.
Short Riga offers a Baltic Student contest in three screenings. The new directors will show off how they tackle the environment in the Country Effect programme, while the aptly named Solitude shows experiments in character development, and the Two boys one girl programme will take up the immortal subject of love triangles. Another section of Short Riga will deal with the last few years' developments in music videos in the Baltics.
Anna Veilande Kustikova, curator of the Short Riga program, told LSM that foreign visitors would find it "particularly interesting to look at the Country Effect programme from the Baltic Student Competition as it features two works that reflect the mentality of Latvia and Estonia."
Although film is the stuff of Short Riga, it'll also organize workshops and host an award ceremony.
A number of screenings will be held accompanied by analysis by experts and guests. You are invited to attend the following public events of the Short Riga section.
