New Year's Eve
Latvia's largest cities and towns will all launch fireworks on New Year's Eve at midnight, often following concerts and other forms of entertainment.
The 11. Novembra krastmala embankment in Rīga will from 9 p.m. December 31 to 3 a.m. January 1 hold a New Year's event with DJs, music and more. Public transportation will be free in Rīga, by the way. Be warned that by midnight the Daugava River bank will be very crowded.
Similar events will be held across municipalities in the rest of Latvia.
Splurge the New Year
A number of fairly expensive joints will host New Year's Eve parties with forties, great food and Entertainment with a capital E. If you're dead set on spending your way into 2017, the places to consider include hotels (Radisson Blu, Riga Islande Hotel), the Blackheads' house and more.
Dance the night away
Unlike on Christmas Eve, pubs, bars and dance halls will be open throughout the night. After watching the fireworks - we'd suggest from somewhere not so close to the river as it will be packed - scores upon scores of people of all ages will occupy the Old Town.
If you cannot wait, a number of places hold events on December 30.
