It was decided to identify possible sites to which the monument could be moved and to do it without delay.
A specific time for moving the monument has not been specified.
The sculpture donated by the Moscow City Council was installed illegally. It was unveiled on August 22, 2009, at Kronvalda Park with the support of the Latvian Pushkin Society, the Russian Embassy in Latvia, and former Mayor Nils Ušakovs, but without the support of the State Inspection for Heritage Protection and the Council for Conservation and Protection of the Historic Center of Riga. Later, in April 2013, the Riga City Council took possession of it.
