Latvia's hopes of defeating Germany in next weekend's Fed Cup tennis clash with Germany have taken a knock with the news that top-ranked player Anastasija Sevastova will not be participating.

Currently ranked 13th in the world by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and a key component of Latvia's previous victories in the competition, Sevastova will not be joining up with the national team this time due to a painful back, reported LTV.

However, the Latvian team will include Aļona Ostapenko (WTA ranked 29), Diāna Marcinkēviča (WTA 267), Daniela Vismane (WTA 645) and Patrīcia Špaka (no ranking).

The Federation Cup Match World Games will be held on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 at Arena Riga.

It is expected that the German team in Rīga with a very strong line-up including Angelique Kerber (WTA 5), Julia Goerges (WTA 17), Andrea Petkovic (WTA 71), and doubles specialist Anna-Leena Groenefeld (WTA 26 doubles).

In February, Latvia memorably overcame Slovakia, while the Germans - two-time Fed Cup champions - downed Belarus.

More information about the action and the format of the Fed Cup is available at the official Fed Cup website.
