February surge in foreign trade

Foreign trade was booming in February with latest data from the Cenral Statistical Bureau (CSB) showing that compared to January, Latvia's foreign trade turnover at current prices increased by 10.8 %.

The value of exported goods rose by 9.5% with imports up by 11.8%. 

In February Latvia exported goods in the amount of €778.5 mln, and imported goods to the tune of €918.0 mln.

As exports in total foreign trade value declined to 45.9% (in January 2016 – 46.4%), the foreign trade balance slightly worsened.

Exports of wood and articles of wood grew by €26.6 mln or 19.4% from January to February, while exports of basic metals experienced even stronger growth by €16.2 mln or 29.6%.

In the opposite direction, imports of vehicles and associated transport equipment increased by €19.5 mln or 35.2%.

European Union member states were the destination for 73% of Latvia's exports, with eurozone countries accounting for precisely 50% of exports.
