January 7 and 8 will see a self-styled "high-level conference" taking place in Rīga marking five years since Latvia switched its currency from the much-loved lats to the more widespread euro.

Spread over two days speakers including Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis, former Prime Minister and current European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis and European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos will participate and you can watch the whole thing live online here on LSM. The conference will be conducted in English.

"The aim of the conference is to gather representatives who were involved in the process of the euro introduction throughout its evolution in Europe and in Latvia. The conference will create a platform for high-level policy makers, experts and civil society representatives to draw lessons from the experience and offer forward-looking ideas for the  deepening of the European Economic and Monetary Union," promises the organizer, the office of the European Commission.
