Registered unemployment at 8.4% in May in Latvia

Unemployment registered in Latvia was 8.4% at the end of May, according to data from the State Employment Agency (NVA).

The number of unemployed people registered in Latvia increased by 3.5 thousand, reaching 76.4 thousand.

This means an increase of 0.4 percentage points.

Unemployment has increased in all regions of Latvia. The largest remains in Latgale at 15.7%. Kurzeme follows with 8.9% and Vidzeme and Zemgale with 8%.

The smallest unemployment is in Riga and its vicinity - 6.7% and 6.8% respectively. 1504 people in Riga and 2164 in the vicinity have become unemployed.

Registered unemployment is often different from actual unemployment. This was also seen in April, when registered unemployment was 8%, whereas actual unemployment was 9.2%.
