Unemployment rate increased in January in Latvia

Data of the Labor Force Survey published February 18 by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in January 2021 actual unemployment rate comprised 8.8%.

This is 0.6 percentage points more than in December. Unemployment rate registered by the State Employment Agency (NVA) accounted for 8.0% - an increase of 0.3 percentage points, compared to December. Unemployment rate increase may be observed when comparing the data to the January of the previous year – of 1.4 percentage points in actual unemployment rate and 1.6 percentage points in registered unemployment rate.

In January 2021 there were 84.1 thousand unemployed people in Latvia, which is 5.4 thousand more than in December and 11.8 thousand more than in the respective period of the previous year. During the last 10 months since the first declaration of state of emergency, compared to the actual monthly unemployment data of March 2020, the number of unemployed has increased by 7.5 thousand.
