Latvia's unemployment rate in August unchanged

Results of the Labour Force Survey published by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) on September 20 show that in August 2023 the actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.5 % and it has not changed over the month. Over the year actual unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage points.

The unemployment rate among women stayed at 4.7 % while among men dropped by 0.1 percentage points down to 8.2 %.

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (NVA) was 5.5 %. It has reduced by 0.1 percentage points over the month and by 0.3 percentage points over the year.

In August 2023 there were 61.5 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (22.2 thousand women and 39.4 thousand men), which is 0.7 thousand fewer than month ago and 5.5 thousand fewer than a year ago.  During the month, the number of unemployed men reduced by 0.4 thousand and of unemployed women by 0.2 thousand.

The SEA calculates registered unemployment rate by using own data on the registered unemployed persons and CSB data on the active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. The actual unemployment rate is estimated based on not adjusted monthly survey results.
