Four candidates remain in running for jobs on passenger rail board

Four candidates from a original 45 applicants remain in the frame to join the board of Latvia's state-owned passenger rail company 'Pasažieru vilciens' (Passenger train, recently rebranded as 'Vivi') according to a government press release October 22.

There are actually three vacancies on the board following a spate of resignations back in January. However, despite the relatively large number of applicants for the jobs, only two candidates for each of two positions on the board have been deemed to be potentially properly qualified to take up a seat.

The third board member position, which is related to the provision of public transport services, company and team management, as well as stakeholder management, is still ongoing. Therefore, the nomination commission decided to extend the application deadline until November 4.

But even the four candidates still in the running for two jobs have no guarantee of securing a seat in the boardroom. Their candidacies will be forwarded to the Minister of Transport, who can either make his pick or reject them all, which would cause the whole competition to be run again from scratch – as has already happened in several similar cases.

If they do take office, the new board members of AS "Pasažieru vilciens" will receive a monthly salary of 1,936 euros (before taxes), while the remuneration of the chairman of the board, chosen from among the board members, is only slightly higher at 2,151 euros.
