airBaltic named best airline in Eastern Europe

Skytrax, the international air transport rating organization, has presented awards to the best players in the aviation industry. For the third year in a row, Latvia's national airline airBaltic was named "Best Airline in Eastern Europe", LTV's Kārlis Miksons reports.

Qatar-based Qatar Airways was named the Airline of the Year and won the main prize. The airline received the title for the eighth time in the 25-year history of the awards.

Several European carriers have also received awards, including the Latvian national airline airBaltic. In the Skytrax survey, airBaltic was ranked seventh in the "World's Best Low-Cost Airlines" category. In addition, airBaltic took home the title of "Best Flight Crew in the Region" and "Best Airline in Eastern Europe".

This is the third year in a row that the Latvian airline has been named the best airline in Eastern Europe.

"We believe that in a modern and competitive market amd continuous efforts are needed to ensure improvements and introduce innovative solutions. The motivation and passion of our team is what drives us forward. We are grateful to our passengers for their trust and to Skytrax for this international recognition for the third year in a row," Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, said in a statement.

Other airlines competing for the title of "Best Airline in Eastern Europe" included LOT Polish Airlines, Wizz Air, and others. 

airBaltic moved up from 61st to 58th in the overall ranking of the 100 most popular airlines in the world.
