'Latvian State Roads' reports a stable year

During the 2023 season, repairworks have been performed on nearly 600 kilometers of state roads, including on 18 bridges, Latvian State Roads (LVC) Board Chairman Mārtiņš Lazdovskis told the agency LETA.

He added that the 2023 construction season could be characterized by more stability than in the previous two years.

"From the point of view of the organization of the works, the works were evenly planned throughout the season, thanks to timely procurements. Supplies of raw materials have stabilized, so it is easier for entrepreneurs to predict both the time and quality of their receipt,” Lazdovskis said.

He noted that no changes in construction costs were observed during this construction season, they remained at the level of 2022, when construction costs increased by about 30% compared to 2021, adding that there was also significant competition in LVC construction procurements this year.

Lazdovskis said that the biggest challenge of the season was completing the construction phase of the public-private partnership project Ķekava bypass and opening the road to traffic.

“Overall, the volume of construction works on the national road network was at the level of the previous year,” the head of LVC noted.
