Take note – story published 5 years ago

In an interview on the LNT television channel July 23, the head of Riga International Airport, Ilona Lice said that direct flights between Latvia and China will be launched this October, reported the LETA newswire.

She pointed out that preparatory work is underway at the moment and that Latvia has concluded all the necessary formalities on its side.

Direct flights will connect Riga with the province of Hainan, in the south of the Communist superpower.

The airline or airlines involved have not been specified.

As previously reported by LSM the suggestion that direct passenger flights between Latvia and China might be launched by the end of this year was recently floated by Helmuts Kols, the Latvian Transport Ministry’s advisor at the Latvian Embassy in Beijing.

Kols also identified Hainan as the likely destination.

LSM also recently reported that Latvian airline airBaltic had signed to use a Chinese financial corporation for a leaseback deal on four planes.
