President-elect Jean-Claude Juncker unveiled his team for the next European Commission (EC) Wednesday, promising “to convince citizens that things will change” in a press release. MEP and former prime minister Valdis Dombrovskis received the newly-created vice-presidential post responsible for the Euro and Social Dialogue, confirming Latvian hopes for an influential role in this EC leadership.

As one of seven Vice-Presidents, Dombrovskis will lead a project team to steer and coordinate the work of various other Commissioners. Juncker stressed in the release naming his team that “the Vice-Presidents will act as real deputies to the President.”

While singling out other members of the team as “important novelties” on the Commission, any mention of Dombrovskis was absent from today’s EC press release, besides his listing as one of the six new VPs in a footnote.
