These social groups have not been determined yet, but they could be pensioners and disabled people, The Ministry of Welfare will still discuss the specific groups that could receive this benefit, as well as the amount of the benefit itself.
On Monday, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity) announced at a remote press conference following the coalition cooperation meeting that the government parties agreed to allocate a total of €500 million to stimulating the economy.
€200 million is for the approved plan to pay €500 for each dependent child.
A further €200 million is intended to be channeled to infrastructure development projects to mitigate the economic downturn and increase employment.
Another €100 million will be earmarked for the payments of benefits to groups of society who would need such support.
These groups will be identified by the Welfare Ministry in cooperation with social partners, the Prime Minister said.
The Minister for Welfare, Ramona Petraviča, said the proposal discussed was a benefit of €200, but it “must details must be agreed on”.
