The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) of Latvia this year is 60, up one point from last year and the year before.
Last year Latvia was in 39th place among the countries included in the list, whereas this year it has risen to the 36th, the same position it held in 2021. This is the highest ranking Latvia has held. Over the past 10 years, Latvia's ranking has improved by seven points.
Lithuania is in the 34th place and Estonia in the 12th.
This year, Denmark, Finland, and New Zealand rank highest, the same as last year. Syria, Venezuela, and Somalia rank lowest.
Corruption reduction in Latvia is included in the National Development Plan. The plan expects Latvia's Corruption Perception Index to be 64 points in 2024 results and 67 points in 2027.
Given the growth rate of Latvia's current result, it is unlikely that the targets will be achieved, Latvia's transparency organization Delna, pointed out as early as 2021.
The stagnation of results shows that Latvia's previous action to prevent corruption is not successful, therefore a more active fight against corruption and implementation of concrete measures in practice is necessary, Delna noted.
