The State Police (VP) has launched 61 administrative infringement proceedings regarding activities organized by the Saeima opposition deputy Aldis Gobzems, VP Chief Armands Ruks told Latvian Television December 15.

Activities organized by Gobzems violate a number of regulatory enactments which, for example, involve illegal assembly and compliance with epidemiological requirements.

Currently 61 administrative infringement proceedings have been launched on the activities of Gobzems as a whole, but the police will continue to assess the materials.

The Chief of the VP also pointed out that for the full assessment of the activities of the police officers, he had ordered to start service checks on the activities organized by the Gobzems in Tukums, Ventspils and Liepāja.

Ruks told newswire LETA that the service inspections will assess the process of detention of persons, including Gobzems, the communication of police officers and the use of tear gas. “It is our own understanding to make sure what has been done and what has not been done, but I do not see any logic that the police would have specifically created a situation to look for trouble with the Member,” Ruks pointed out and added that the officers took their decisions in accordance with the actual circumstances.
