Former tax inspector goes to prison for bribery

Take note – story published 1 year ago

A prison sentence for one and a half years has come into force for the former State Revenue Service (VID) inspector Aigars Kupčus, LETA reported on September 29.

This crime was reported by the De Facto broadcast of Latvian Television in the spring of 2016. The VID employee Kupčus had asked for a bribe from the owner of the farm and butcher's shop Dimzas.

Last year in January, the Riga City Vidzeme District Court found Kupčus guilty of requesting a bribe of EUR 1400, and accepting one of EUR 700. The court sentenced him to a term of imprisonment for one year and six months, and deprivation of the right to take office in the State administration for a period of two years.

The accused filed a cassation complaint before the Supreme Court, which refused to initiate cassation proceedings so the conviction took effect this week.
