Šulte said that one of the main challenges this summer was the control of nightclubs, namely how these entertainment sites comply with the restrictions imposed with regard to COVID-19.
He explained that nightclubs had devised a variety of tricks to avoid the restrictions, namely that they disguised public events as private events, such as birthday celebrations.
The police have determined that the central entrance has not been used for entry to the event after the specified working time, instead the staff and service doors were used. “Visitors had to learn codes and stories about birthdays and know who is celebrating the birthday,” said Šulte.
State Police found violations in seven nightclubs and bars in Rīga. The police did not provide more detailed explanations at the time, but said that nightclubs were working after midnight, bringing together a large number of visitors.
A total of 1097 administrative infringement proceedings have been initiated pending the initiation of the Information System for Administrative Violations Support, which entered into force on 1 July with the Administrative Liability Act. After starting the system, 167 administrative infringement proceedings have been initiated.
