Over 1,700 people turned back on Latvia-Belarus border in two months

Between August 10, the announcement of the state of emergency on the Latvia-Belarus border, and October 15, the Border Guard has prevented 1,706 persons from crossing the border.

On Thursday, October 14, another 18 people's attempts of illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian State border were prevented. Six people were detained for having crossed the border illegally.

402 persons have been detained for illegally crossing the border this year, 295 of whom came in the timeframe from August 6 to 10, and 50 of whom came after the announcement of the state of emergency. They were not prevented from crossing the border, citing humanitarian reasons.
