The new edition of the "How to act in case of a crisis" booklet is has been supplemented with sections on stockpiling food, preparing action plans for families, as well as other useful advice.
"Strengthening the resilience of society is one of the cornerstones of comprehensive national defense. I invite everyone to spend 1 hour of their time to familiarize themselves with this updated material and discuss its content with their loved ones. The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is to be prepared," said Defense Minister Andris Sprūds.
Along with the publication of the latest edition of the booklet, the Ministry of Defense will implement an information campaign "Armed with knowledge" to explain crisis preparation at the individual, family and community levels.
In May, the Ministry of Defense will also publish expanded materials on the actions of the population in the event of war, which was created by learning from Ukraine's experience in the fight against the Russian occupation army.
The Ministry of Defense has also prepared comprehensive guidelines for local governments on cooperation with the National Armed Forces and actions in the event of a military threat. In order to obtain feedback from municipalities, the guidelines have been sent to the Association of Latvian Municipalities for evaluation.
At the end of the informational campaign, on June 15, 14 Latvian municipalities will host informational events organized by the National Armed Forces on preparing for crisis situations.

As previously reported by LSM back in 2020 when it first appeared, the original 16-page brochure, published in English, Latvian, and Russian (a Braille version has also been produced) maps out preparation measures and steps every Latvian resident should follow in response to crisis-related power outages, interruptions in internet and communication services or closure of shops, fuel stations, and ATMs as a result of disaster, pandemic or military operations.
As ERR News reports in Tallinn, Estonia is also producing an emergency brochure along similar lines which concentrates on the methods by which the general population will be informed about imminent threats.
