The winter holiday for schoolchildren will not be extended again, Education Minister Ilga Šuplinska told Latvian Television January 15.

According to her, if children of grades 1-4 are not yet able to return to schools from 25 January due to the epidemiological situation, learning will be provided remotely through the Tava klase educational television channel. Filming of the material will begin next week.

The Minister for Education said the proportion of positive Covid-19 tests in Latvia is declining. On-site learning could be resumed if the positive Covid-19 tests do not exceed 7% of the total number of tests performed. “I very much hope that pupils of grades 1 to 4 will be able to resume their learning [from January 25],” the minister said.

The Minister recalled that schools should take precautions – as often as possible –  ventilation, disinfecting, distancing and wearing masks.
