During the first snowy days in Riga, the municipality found that Clean R failed to meet its obligations and cleaning the pavements entrusted to it at less than 50% of the amount stipulated in the contract.
The City Council has decided to impose a fine of €900 per day, indicating that if the quality of the work will remain unsatisfactory in the coming days, the municipality plans to swiftly terminate the contract, which is currently in force by the end of December.
The contract provides that Clean R should ensure winter cleaning of sidewalks under the responsibility of the local government, including holidays and weekends, and that the sidewalks must be clean by 8 a.m.
The City Council said that the contract with the company was valid until 1 January 2022 and could be extended for a further two years. In the event of termination, JSC “Ceļu Pārvalde” and “Hadberg” may be eligible for the duties.
