It states that the Ethics Committee has decided to propose to the Certification Board of the Latvian Medical Association to revoke the certificate issued to Mednis, because he has seriously violated ethical norms.
Mednis on social media blamed the doctors of the Children's Clinical University Hospital (BKUS) for the death of a child with diphtheria on social media. For example, on the Telegram site, Mednis claimed that the parents of the children with diphtheria had exercised their rights under the Patients' Rights Law and had decided to refuse further treatment for their daughters because they had concluded that "their daughters' health and life could be harmed, as was the case with their little brother who was 'treated' to death".
This action against the doctors provoked a strong backlash from the BKUS, calling on various institutions to assess Mednis' actions. The Latvian Association of Paediatricians asked for the suspension of Mednis' certificate.
The Latvian Medical Association (LĀB) also condemned these statements and decided that the LĀB Ethics Committee would evaluate Mednis' public statements on vaccination and decide whether to refer the matter further to the Certification Board. The Board also asked law enforcement authorities to assess whether Mednis' public statements on social networks could be considered as possible hate speech. The Latvian Association of Paediatricians requested that Mednis' certificate be suspended.
The final decision on Mednis' certificate is to be taken by the Latvian Medical Association's Certification Board.
