Two more drownings in Latvia Thursday

Thursday also brought tragic events on the water – rescuers from the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) pulled two fatalities from bodies of water, the VUGD said in a statement.

Just before four in the afternoon, a call was received from Dzintaru Street in Ventspils, where a deceased man was removed from a body of water and handed over to State Police officers.

At half-past five in the afternoon, firefighters went to Zilā Street in Riga, where another deceased man was lifted from a well and handed over to State Police officials.

Six dead people have been removed from bodies of water by firefighters rescuers in the past two days.

As hot weather sets in, people are more likely to choose to be by the water, so the VUGD reminds the public that when going swimming, don't forget about safety, don't act recklessly, don't jump into unchecked areas, and don't try to show off.

In case you see a person drowning, call 112 immediately.
