On Friday, September 17, Latvia recorded 533 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of the total number of positive cases, 426 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 107 were fully vaccinated.

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 149,614.

Of 35,108 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 1.5 % were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose again from 297.6 Thursday to 307.1 Friday, the first time it has been above 300 since late May, and taking morbidity ever deeper into the 'dark red' or 'very high' risk classification, the highest of the four alert categories under the 'traffic light' system.

Unfortunately, three more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed, all of persons in the age range 80-89 years. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,635.

Meanwhile, in Estonia 532 new Covid cases were registered and in Lithuania 1,197 new cases were recorded.
