67 new Covid cases added to total Thursday in Latvia

On Thursday, July 29, Latvia reported 67 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 138,717. 

Of 6,974 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 1% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from 34.1 Wednesday to 35.7 Thursday.

No Covid-related deaths were confirmed, so the death toll since the start of the pandemic stays at 2,554.

The number of patients being treated for coronavirus symptoms in Latvia's hospitals fell from 46 on Wednesday to 43 on Thursday. However, the number classed as having serious symptoms rose from 6 to 9.

Meanwhile in Estonia 222 new Covid cases were registered Thursday and in Lithuania 380 new cases were recorded amid further signs that another Covid-19 wave appears to be rising in the Baltic states.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
