82 new Covid-19 cases in Latvia Friday

On Friday, July 30, Latvia reported 82 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 138,799. 

Of 7,308 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 1.1% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from 35.7 Thursday to 37.6 Friday.

Two Covid-related deaths were confirmed, so the death toll since the start of the pandemic rose to 2,556.

The number of patients being treated for coronavirus symptoms in Latvia's hospitals rose from 43 on Thursday to 46 on Friday, according to figures from the National Health Service. Of that number, 8 patients are classed as having serious symptoms.

On July 29 2,429 people received a first vaccine dose and 1,599 received a second dose. In all 677,424 people have now completed a course of vaccination in Latvia.

Meanwhile in Estonia 197 new Covid cases were registered Friday and in Lithuania 346 new cases were recorded as the country re-entered its "red zone".

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
