Covid case total increases by 396, morbidity rate continues to fall in Latvia

On Wednesday, May 26, Latvia recorded 396 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 131,910.

Of 12,790 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 3.1% were positive, up very slightly on the 2.6% rate of Tuesday but consistent with the roughly 3% rate seen in recent days.

Also continuing the encouraging trend of the last few days, the 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell again, from 343 Tuesday to 326 Wednesday as it moves another step closer to the 200 threshold classed as a "very high risk" pandemic situation under the government's four-stage "traffic light" system.

Sadly, six more deaths were also confirmed Wednesday, taking the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 2,348.

Meanwhile in Estonia 185 new cases of coronavirus were recorded May 26, and in Lithuania 523 cases were logged.
