Flu epidemic intensifies across Latvia

Flu intensity increased in Latvia last week, according to April 20 data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Last week, 64 patients turned to doctor with influenza cases, including 25 in Riga, 20 in Jelgava, nine in Daugavpils, five in Jūrmala, four in Liepaja and one in Gulbene.

A total of 99.6 cases of influenza per 100,000 inhabitants were reported in Latvia last week, while a week earlier 47.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were reported.

In Daugavpils, Jelgava and Jūrmala, the influenza rate was over 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

39 hospitalized flu patients are in hospitals. Of the hospitalized patients, 26 are children under the age of 14.

Currently, the State pays for the flu vaccine for all residents, so it is recommended to get vaccinated to protect yourself.
