Janssen vaccine shortages throughout Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Although Covid-19 vaccines are currently abundant, the Janssen vaccine has become deficient in many vaccination centers, Latvian Television reported August 25.

Some of the people who come to get vaccinated want to get Janssen especially, because it needs only one dose of vaccine. In many vaccination centers, the Janssen vaccines have run out.

"There is a situation in Latvia and in other countries that we have only received 13% of the doses of Janssen vaccines we ordered this year. This explains why there is this shortage of Janssen vaccines," said Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts.

LSM already reported that due to the production and supply delays Latvia will not buy any more Janssen vaccines. This is a decision taken collectively by the European Commission.

For many, the single-dose nature is important due to difficulties either scheduling or physically reaching the vaccination center. Currently, for example, Janssen vaccines available in Daugavpils are reserved only for mobile vaccination centers, for seniors over the age of 80, as well as for teachers.
