Latvian state will stop paying for Covid tests starting August

Take note – story published 2 years ago

As of August 1, Covid-19 laboratory testing for visiting events and receiving different services will only be possible for a fee, the National Health Service (NVD) reminded.

According to the Cabinet, until August 1, the State pays for Covid-19 testing to people who need it to attend events and receive services. But starting, August 1, there will be a change: adult tests will have to be paid for by the person themselves. The fee for the laboratory test will be in line with the price list for each laboratory fee service.

If the test is needed because there are Covid-19 symptoms, laboratory testing will continue to be paid from State budget resources for epidemiological investigations.

This means that in the future, after state-paid testing, the digital Covid-19 certificate will not be issued and the person will only receive a laboratory statement of the outcome to ensure that the supervision or treatment is provided.

Thus, a person can receive a digital Covid-19 certificate if they have been vaccinated, had and overcome Covid-19, or carried out a test paid by themselves.

The digital Covid-19 certificate will also be created if the resident has performed a self-paid laboratory test with the aim of travelling outside Latvia without Covid-19 symptoms.

For children under 18 years of age, Covid-19 laboratory testing for visiting events and receiving services from State budget funds will be paid until September 1.
