In the future, Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) epidemiologists will publish a weekly list of regions where additional safety measures are to be introduced, Latvian Television reported November 26.

Starting Friday, November 27, twelve previously determined municipalities will have additional restrictions imposed. Since the infection rates in the country are going up, SPKC has decided to map out heavily affected areas every Tuesday. The rules will come in force Thursday of that week.

Restrictions will be imposed where the cumulative infection rate over 14 days exceeds the country average. This week, the threshold was 413.8 infected per 100 000 inhabitants. The highest rates this week were in Varakļāni and Aknīste municipalities - over 1,000.

Rīga currently has a rate of 363.6. However, Mārupe municipality which sits right next to Rīga, has made the list with 514.8. Many Mārupe residents work in Rīga. The municipality representative said there is no big outbreak, the infection is spread out in many households.

This week, additional rules are in force in Daugavpils, Baldone, Krāslava, Salacgrīva, Aknīste, Varakļāni, Mārupe, Mālpils, Smiltene, Garkalne, Limbaži and Salaspils.
