Vaccination take-up slows down in Latvia while boosters pick up

The number of people getting their first dose against Covid-19 is decreasing, according to data compiled by the National Health Service (NVD) December 2.

In the first three days of this week, a total of 29,541 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in Latvia, but only 19.05% of them received the first dose or the single-dose Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine. 37.65% of those vaccinated this week against Covid-19 received the second dose of the leg, but approximately 43.26% of all those affected received a booster vaccine.

To date, a total of 78,247 people have got the booster against Covid-19 in Latvia or 6.55% of those with primary vaccination. Meanwhile, 1,195,028 people have completed the primary vaccination course, or 63.49% of Latvia's population, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau on the population in Latvia at the beginning of July 2021.

According to current data, 9,802 people received a Covid-19 jab in Latvia on Wednesday, of which 1,177 had the first dose, 3,524 the second, 4,586 the booster vaccine, while 515 people were newly vaccinated with the Janssen vaccine.
